Marti Wymer’s mother had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome. Anyone who walked through her door immediately felt the warmth and love of her home.

When Marti’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, Marti wanted to do everything she could to care for her in the same way her mother had always cared for her. However, they were thousands of miles apart, and Marti couldn’t be there in person. She wished there was a way to comfort her mother and show her how much she was loved. Sending a warm bowl of soup felt like the perfect gesture, the closest thing to a hug.

With her mother in mind and a desire to spread love, Marti founded Spoonful of Comfort in 2008 to send handcrafted, heartwarming soups to people who needed a little extra care. It all started at her kitchen table, where Marti personally assembled care packages filled with homemade soup, freshly baked rolls, and oatmeal cookies. Each package was wrapped in cheerful yellow, with hand-tied ribbons, and she personally delivered every box.

The thoughtful gesture resonated with early recipients, whose positive word-of-mouth kept orders coming in. When online mentions caused a flood of orders that Marti couldn’t keep up with, it became clear that Spoonful of Comfort was onto something special. Recognizing the potential, Marti decided to make it a full-time business and brought in her husband, Steven Wymer, and business partner, Scott Gustafson, to help.

Today, Spoonful of Comfort continues to honor Marti’s mother by offering thoughtful care packages that comfort, uplift, and inspire. Marti’s promise remains to “make and deliver a Spoonful of Comfort with as much care as if I were sending it to my own mother.”
